West Bengal Governor Dismissed Mamata Cabinet

New Delhi: West Bengal Governor R. N. Ravi reportedly dismissed the Mamata Banerjee-led cabinet following the dramatic outcome of the 2026 Assembly elections. The development came after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a massive victory in the state, winning more than 200 seats and ending the Trinamool Congress (TMC)’s 15-year rule.

According to reports, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had refused to resign despite her party’s defeat, alleging electoral manipulation and conspiracy. The Governor later stepped in amid growing constitutional uncertainty and reportedly dismissed the cabinet to pave the way for the formation of a new government.

The political turmoil intensified after Mamata Banerjee also lost her own assembly seat in Bhowanipore to BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari. BJP leaders called the Governor’s move necessary for protecting democratic norms, while TMC accused the Centre of political interference.

Legal experts say the Governor has constitutional powers to intervene when a government loses majority support and refuses to step down. Discussions are now underway regarding the formation of the new BJP-led government in the state. The situation remains tense, with heavy political reactions emerging from across the country.
