Bank Account Freeze: Calcutta High Court Refuses Urgent Relief to Mamata-Led TMC Faction
KOLKATA: The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday declined to grant an urgent hearing on a petition filed by the Mamata Banerjee-led faction of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) challenging the freezing of its bank accounts.
Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya refused to accord priority to the matter, observing that the petition would be taken up in due course as per the court’s regular listing schedule.
The development comes after authorities imposed a debit freeze on three bank accounts of the ruling party following complaints by rebel TMC MLAs, who sought an investigation into the source of funds deposited in the accounts.
The Mamata Banerjee-led faction approached the high court seeking immediate relief against the freeze, arguing that the action affected the party’s financial operations. However, the court declined to treat the matter as urgent.
