Jay Shah Says Women’s Cricket Has Reached a Golden Era
LONDON: ICC Chairman Jay Shah has described women’s cricket as being in a “golden era” after Australia’s emphatic victory over England in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup final at Lord’s, saying the tournament reaffirmed why the women’s game has become “unmissable” for fans around the world.
Australia produced a dominant all-round display to clinch their seventh ICC Women’s T20 World Cup title, comfortably defeating England by chasing down a target of 151 with 17 balls to spare. Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, Australia restricted England to 150 before their batters made light work of the chase. Star opener Beth Mooney anchored the innings with a fluent 64, guiding her side to victory in just 17.1 overs.
Following Australia’s triumph, Shah congratulated the champions and praised the tournament for showcasing the remarkable growth and quality of women’s cricket.
“Women’s cricket is in a golden era. This tournament has shown exactly why the women’s game is unamicable,” Shah said after presenting the trophy to Australia captain Sophie Molineux at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground.
