CM Cancels Tuesday Programmes After Lucknow Fire; SIT Probe Ordered, 4 Held
LUCKNOW (UP): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday cancelled almost all his scheduled engagements, including visits to Hathras and Agra, following the devastating fire in Lucknow that claimed at least 15 lives and left several others injured.
According to officials, the chief minister was scheduled to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for several development projects in Hathras before heading to Agra for a review meeting. However, the programmes were cancelled as the state government focused on relief, rescue and follow-up action after the tragedy.
The fire broke out on Monday afternoon in a commercial building in Aliganj’s Sector D area that housed an animation centre and a pet shop. Most of the victims were reportedly young students attending classes at the animation centre, while several others sustained injuries after being trapped by flames and thick smoke.
The ruling BJP in Uttar Pradesh also announced the suspension of all its organisational programmes scheduled for Tuesday as a mark of respect for those who lost their lives. The party expressed condolences to the bereaved families.
The tragedy has triggered a major administrative response, with the state government ordering an inquiry into the incident and initiating action against those found responsible. Authorities are continuing investigations into the cause of the blaze and possible violations of safety norms.
