MHA Adds 23 Pakistan-Based Operatives to UAPA’s Designated Terrorist List
NEW DELHI: 23 Pakistan-based individuals linked to terror outfits got designated by The Union Home Ministry on Saturday. According to an official government order some of the well-known terror outfits include Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), and other banned organisations as “terrorists” under the provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
With the inclusion of these 23 names in the list of designated terrorists, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) will be empowered to initiate measures such as freezing financial assets, blocking funding channels, imposing restrictions on arms-related transactions, and seizing properties linked to the individuals.
Under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, the required action has been taken. Through this action, the central government will designate an individual as a chosen terrorist if it considers the person involved in any form of terrorism.
Officials said the move strengthens the legal framework to curb terror financing and dismantle the operational networks of individuals accused of involvement in terrorist activities.
