Lions Gate Opening Rituals were completed by Shree Bhitarachha Mohapatra at 06:19 AM.

The “Lion Gate Opening Rituals” in the Jagannath Temple refer to the sacred early-morning ceremony known as “Singhadwara Phita Niti” . Meaning Singhadwara = Lion Gate, the main entrance of the temple. Phita Niti = Opening ritual or ceremonial unlocking. This ritual marks the official opening of the temple doors before the daily worship of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra begins.

What Happens During the Ritual?

Temple servitors (Sevayats), especially designated officials like the Bhitarachha Mahapatra, perform the ritual. The doors of the temple are ceremonially opened before dawn. Sacred chants, prayers, and traditional procedures are followed. After opening, devotees can begin darshan according to temple timings. This ritual is considered highly auspicious because it symbolically awakens the divine presence for the day’s seva (service and worship).

Spiritual Importance The Lion Gate is the main and most sacred entrance of the temple.

Opening it each morning signifies: the beginning of daily divine rituals, welcoming devotees, and invoking spiritual purity and blessings for the day. About the Lion Gate

The Singhadwara is famous for: the majestic lion sculptures at the entrance, the Arun Stambha pillar, and being the principal gateway facing east.
