PM Modi opens Jodhpur airport’s new terminal, launches revamped UDAN scheme.

JODHPUR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the new terminal building at Jodhpur Airport and launched the Modified UDAN Scheme, marking a major push to strengthen regional air connectivity and aviation infrastructure across the country.

Modi was received at the airport by Rajasthan Governor Haribhau Bagade, Union Culture and Tourism Minister and Jodhpur MP Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, and Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma.

The Prime Minister formally dedicated the new terminal to the nation by unveiling the inauguration plaque via a remote-controlled ceremony before touring the state-of-the-art facility. During the event, Modi also launched the Modified UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) Scheme, which has been allocated Rs 28,840 crore over the next 10 years to drive the next phase of aviation-led development in the country.

The newly inaugurated terminal at Jodhpur Airport has been built at a cost of Rs 480 crore and spans more than 23,000 square metres. Designed to handle up to 20 lakh passengers annually, the facility significantly enhances the airport’s capacity to meet rising passenger traffic. Equipped with modern passenger amenities, the terminal is expected to provide a seamless, efficient and comfortable travel experience. The building’s architecture reflects Rajasthan’s rich cultural heritage, incorporating traditional design elements such as arches and jharokhas while blending them with contemporary infrastructure and passenger-friendly features.

The revamped scheme seeks to expand regional air connectivity through multiple strategic initiatives, ensuring broader, sustainable access to air travel while boosting economic growth and improving connectivity to underserved regions. Such Scheme emphasize the Centre’s continued emphasis on expanding aviation infrastructure, improving regional connectivity and supporting economic development through enhanced transport networks.
