US-India Ties at Lowest Point in 30 Years, Says Indian-American Democrat Leader

WASHINGTON: Indian-American Congressman Ro Khanna has said that the US-India relationship is at its lowest point in three decades, blaming US President Donald Trump for pursuing what he described as “utterly destructive policies.”

Speaking at the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum Leadership Summit in Washington on Monday, Khanna expressed concern over the current state of bilateral ties, saying that years of trust between the two democracies had been eroded.

Khanna said that during his recent visit to China, India’s ambassador there told him that “a generation of trust was lost” because of Trump’s policies, underscoring the long-term impact on diplomatic relations. “I’m not one to mince words. I sort of tell things as they are. The US-India relationship has been at its lowest point in the last 30 years,” Khanna said while addressing the summit.

His remarks come at a time when Washington and New Delhi are navigating key issues, including trade, defence cooperation and regional security in the Indo-Pacific. Khanna has stressed the need to rebuild trust and deepen strategic cooperation between the two countries amid evolving global geopolitical challenges.
