Kerala Health Minister Warns of Possible Dengue Outbreak in Thiruvananthapuram
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Health Minister K. Muraleedharan on Saturday warned that Thiruvananthapuram could face a dengue outbreak if the city corporation fails to strengthen garbage removal and sanitation measures, stressing that effective waste management is the government’s immediate priority.
Speaking to reporters, the minister said the state was more concerned about the civic body’s handling of sanitation and waste disposal than the ongoing political developments surrounding the BJP-led Thiruvananthapuram Corporation.
His remarks came in response to questions about the United Democratic Front’s (UDF) reported plan to move a no-confidence motion against the BJP-led civic administration. Muraleedharan declined to comment on the political issue, saying it would not be appropriate for him, as a minister, to respond to such developments. Instead, he highlighted the urgent need for improved sanitation efforts, warning that inadequate garbage clearance could create conditions conducive to the spread of dengue.
Health authorities have repeatedly urged local bodies to intensify cleanliness drives, eliminate stagnant water, and ensure effective waste disposal to curb the spread of the disease.
