KOLKATA: A low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal is set to trigger widespread rainfall across south Bengal over the next few days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning of heavy to very heavy showers and possible waterlogging in several low-lying areas till July 6.

According to the IMD, the low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify over the next two days, leading to enhanced rainfall activity across most districts of south Bengal. The weather office has forecast very heavy rainfall on July 5 in South 24 Parganas, Purba Medinipur, Paschim Medinipur, Jhargram, Purulia, Bankura, and Howrah districts.

The IMD said the evolving weather system over the Bay of Bengal will continue to influence rainfall across the region until at least July 6. Civic authorities and residents have been advised to remain alert as intense spells of rain could disrupt normal life and local transportation.
