Nandankanan Zoo gets 58 animals from Gujarat trust
BHUBANESWAR: The Nandankanan Zoological Park in Bhubaneswar on Saturday received 58 animals belonging to 14 species from a Gujarat-based animal welfare trust, an official said.
The consignment includes a pair of zebras, kangaroos and Bennett’s wallabies, among other animals, and was donated by the Radha Krishna Temple Elephant Welfare Trust (RKTEWT), Gujarat.
The animals were handed over to the zoological park as part of efforts to expand and diversify its collection, the official said.
With the arrival of the new animals, the total number of species housed at Nandankanan Zoo has increased to 188, he said.
The addition is expected to further enhance the zoo’s animal collection and provide visitors an opportunity to see a wider variety of wildlife.
Nandankanan Zoological Park, located on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, is one of Odisha’s prominent wildlife attractions and is known for its diverse collection of animals and conservation programmes.
Officials said the newly received animals will be housed and cared for in accordance with the zoo’s existing facilities and management practices.
The transfer of the animals from the Gujarat-based trust marks another addition to the zoo’s growing collection, strengthening its position as an important zoological and wildlife conservation centre in the state.
