Bihar Flood Situation Grim, Over 47 Lakh People Affected Across 15 Districts
PATNA: The flood situation in Bihar remained grim on Friday, with more than 47.33 lakh people affected across 15 districts as the Ganga and its tributaries continued to flow above danger levels, officials said.
Rising water levels have triggered widespread erosion and breaches in embankments at several locations, posing fresh challenges for authorities engaged in flood-control and relief operations.
At least four embankment breaches were reported from different parts of Bhagalpur district, officials said. While some of the breaches have already been repaired, restoration work is underway at the remaining sites.
A breach at the Brahmottar Dam in Gopalpur block was brought under control overnight with the help of a technical team from the Water Resources Department and local residents, the district administration said in a statement.
Officials said teams have been deployed to monitor vulnerable embankments and undertake immediate repairs wherever required.
The continuing rise in the Ganga and its tributaries has increased the flood threat in several low-lying areas, affecting normal life and putting pressure on local administration and relief machinery.
Authorities are maintaining close watch on the situation and carrying out necessary measures to prevent further breaches and minimise damage in the affected districts.
