Legendary Playback Singer S Janaki, Voice Behind 48,000 Songs, Dies at 88

MYSURU: Legendary playback singer S Janaki passed away at a private hospital in Mysuru on Saturday due to age-related ailments, family sources said. She was 88.

According to sources, the veteran singer developed breathing difficulties on Friday night and was admitted to the hospital, where she breathed her last on Saturday. Renowned for her extraordinary contribution to Indian music, S Janaki recorded over 48,000 songs across multiple languages during a career spanning more than six decades, earning widespread acclaim as one of the country’s greatest playback singers.
