New Delhi: The Delhi government has completed more than 90 per cent of drain desilting across the national capital as part of its monsoon preparedness drive aimed at reducing waterlogging, officials said on Friday.

The PWD, the city’s largest drain-owning agency, has cleared silt from nearly 1,955 kilometers of drains in its 2,123-km drainage network and report says this desiting work has completed over 90 per cent of the targeted work.

According to official data updated till July 2, the PWD desilted 539.34 km of drains in the East Zone, 603 km in the South Zone, and 812 km in the North Zone. The remaining stretches are being cleared on priority, with authorities closely monitoring the progress to ensure the drainage network functions efficiently during periods of heavy rainfall.
