Couple Sentenced to Life Imprisonment for Killing Businessman in 2022
JAIPUR: A court in Rajasthan’s Sri Ganganagar district has sentenced a couple to life imprisonment for murdering a 50-year-old businessman in December 2022.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Kamal Lohia on Monday also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 each on the convicts, Jasmine alias Ashu (26) and her husband Rohit (27).
According to Additional Public Prosecutor Rajpal Nayak, the partially burnt body of businessman Vijendra Singh Rathore was recovered from a vacant plot behind a house.
Jasmine, who was allegedly in a relationship with Rathore, had called him to the couple’s rented house. The couple allegedly robbed him of his ATM cards, cash and mobile phone and forced him to disclose his ATM PIN.
The prosecution said the accused then tied Rathore up and repeatedly assaulted him with an iron griddle and sticks, resulting in his death. They allegedly transported his body on a stolen handcart to a vacant plot, where they set it on fire using petrol.
The couple later allegedly withdrew money using Rathore’s ATM card. Police subsequently arrested them from Abohar in Punjab.
