European Commission VP Calls India a Strategic EU Partner in Semiconductors

New Delhi: India is a key partner for the European Union in the semiconductor sector as the bloc works to strengthen resilient chip supply chains and expand its manufacturing capacity, Henna Virkkunen said on Thursday. She is the European Commission Executive Vice-President for Security, Democracy, and Tech Sovereignty.

Speaking after the third India-EU Trade and Technology Council (TTC) meeting in Brussels, Virkkunen said the EU’s recently adopted Chips 2.0 strategy focuses on enhancing supply chain resilience while deepening cooperation with trusted partners such as India.

She highlighted India’s vast pool of highly skilled talent, describing the country as an important partner for semiconductor research and development.
