Govt Dismisses E20 Fuel Concerns, Says Ethanol Blending Programme Is Safe
NEW DELHI: The government on Wednesday said India’s ethanol blending program is safe, consumer-friendly and economically beneficial, dismissing concerns that using E20 fuel could invalidate vehicle insurance policies.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, in a statement, said reports suggesting that using E20 fuel could affect the validity of vehicle insurance had been clarified with the relevant stakeholders and were found to be incorrect. The ministry reiterated that ethanol blending is a globally accepted practice and is being successfully implemented in several countries, including the United States, Brazil, and Japan.
The government said the ethanol blending initiative has undergone extensive testing and evaluation to ensure compatibility with vehicles approved for E20 fuel, also delivering environmental and economic benefits.
It emphasized that consumers using E20 fuel in compatible vehicles need not worry about their insurance coverage, as there is no basis for claims that the fuel would invalidate insurance policies.
