Sajjan Kumar and the Long Shadow of the 1984 Anti-Sikh Riots

NEW DELHI: Sajjan Kumar, the former Congress leader and three-time Lok Sabha member who remained a controversial figure over his alleged role in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, died on Thursday at the age of 80 while serving a life sentence in Tihar jail.

Kumar, who had been convicted in connection with the riots and sentenced to two life terms, was suffering from several ailments. He was brought to Safdarjung Hospital around 11 AM after developing altered sensorium. Doctors attempted to resuscitate him, but he could not be revived.
