Trump says record 19 million barrels of oil transited the Strait of Hormuz on Monday
Washington: US President Donald Trump on Tuesday claimed that a record 19 million barrels of oil transited through the Strait of Hormuz on Monday, saying the development had helped push global oil prices lower and made the world “a much safer place.”
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said, “Oil prices are tumbling down, and the world is a much safer place.” The President has repeatedly argued that avoiding a prolonged conflict with Iran prevented a major economic disruption, while acknowledging Tehran’s strategic leverage through its ability to threaten shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
The Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime chokepoint between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, carries a significant share of the world’s seaborne crude oil and liquefied natural gas exports. Any disruption to traffic through the waterway is closely watched by global energy markets.
