Shreyas Iyer Admits Team Was ‘Atrocious’, Demands Major Improvement

Nottingham: India captain Shreyas Iyer did not hold back after his side suffered a humiliating 125-run defeat to England in the third T20 International, calling the performance “atrocious” and admitting the margin of defeat was “not acceptable.”

India endured a disastrous batting collapse, getting bowled out for just 76 in 11.4 overs while chasing a daunting target of 202. The crushing loss marked India’s biggest defeat in T20 Internationals in terms of runs. The result also extended Iyer’s winless start as India’s T20I captain, with the team yet to register a victory under his leadership.

“It was atrocious; losing by that margin is not acceptable. First things first, we have to accept the loss and go back to the drawing board,” Iyer said. Reacting to the defeat during the post-match presentation, Iyer said the team must first accept the setback before focusing on improving.
