Mayawati Urges Dalit Community to Seek Justice through Legal Channels

LUCKNOW: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Friday urged Dalits and other marginalised communities to seek justice through constitutional and democratic means rather than resorting to street protests, stressing that political empowerment through the ballot remains the most effective way to safeguard their rights and interests.

Her remarks come amid protests over law and order issues involving Dalit communities in districts such as Meerut, Saharanpur, Hardoi, and Prayagraj. Mayawati appealed to people to remain peaceful and exercise restraint, saying that constitutional mechanisms and democratic institutions provide the strongest platform for addressing grievances and ensuring justice.

The appeal follows violent protests in Meerut on Thursday over the alleged murder of a Dalit woman. Demonstrators allegedly broke through the main gate of the district magistrate’s office and attempted to force their way inside. According to officials, at least 11 police personnel were injured in the violence. Security was tightened in the area following the incident, while authorities continued efforts to restore normalcy and maintain law and order.
