Landslide Damages 100-Metre Section of Yamunotri Highway in Uttarakhand, Disrupts Traffic
UTTARKASHI (Uttarakhand): A 100-metre stretch of the Yamunotri National Highway near Syanachatti in Uttarkashi district was damaged after a landslide triggered by incessant rainfall, disrupting traffic on the crucial Char Dham pilgrimage route, officials said on Friday.
Heavy rain on Thursday triggered landslides that scattered debris across an approximately one-kilometre stretch of the highway, forcing authorities to completely halt vehicular movement. The damaged road has left commuters and pilgrims stranded as restoration work is being planned.
Uttarkashi District Disaster Management Officer Shardul Gusain said the road section, measuring around 100 metres, caved in near Syanachatti on Thursday evening following intense rainfall and landslides. Officials are closely watching the condition and evaluating the level of the damage.
Authorities have urged travellers to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel on the route until the highway is cleared and declared safe.
