PM Modi Thanks Nation, Says ‘Deeply Touched’ After Creating History as India’s Longest-Serving PM
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday thanked people across the country for their wishes after becoming India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister, saying he considers it a privilege to serve the nation and contribute to its development.
Modi’s latest milestone comes after completing 4,398 consecutive days in office as an elected Prime Minister, overtaking Nehru’s record. Nehru served as head of the interim government from 1947 until the first general elections in 1952, after which he became an elected Prime Minister.
Modi surpassed the record of 4,398 consecutive days in office previously held by India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, as an elected prime minister. The Prime Minister, in a post, said he was deeply moved by the greetings and messages he had received over the past few days. Expressing gratitude, Modi said serving the country has been one of the greatest privileges of his life.
“Deeply touched by the good wishes conveyed by people from all walks of life today and over the last few days. While I may not have been able to respond to each message individually, I cherish every greeting conveyed,” Modi wrote. “I consider it a privilege to have the opportunity to serve Bharat and contribute to the nation’s development journey,” he said.
The Prime Minister credited the people of India for placing their trust in his leadership over the years, saying their continued support has strengthened his resolve.” Over the years, the people of India have been voting for stability, good governance and development. Their trust has been my greatest source of strength,” Modi said. Indorsing his commitment to the country’s progress, he said his government would continue working with greater dedication to achieve the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ and fulfil the aspirations of 140 crore Indians.
