Energy Minister Urges Nepal to Prepare for Possible El Nino Impacts
KATHMANDU: Nepal’s Energy Minister Biraj Bhakta Shrestha stressed the need for preparedness in water, food, irrigation and disaster resilience sectors to mitigate the potential impacts of the Super El Nino weather phenomenon.
Shrestha said recent forecasts suggest increased risks to rainfall, temperatures, hydropower generation, irrigation and food production. El Nino is a recurring weather pattern associated with rising global temperatures.
