Orange Alert in Mumbai, Thane; Palghar Announces School Holiday amid Heavy Rain

Mumbai/Palghar: Mumbai and several parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) remained on high alert on Thursday after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across the region. While schools in Mumbai continued to function, the Palghar district administration declared a holiday for all schools, colleges, anganwadis and other educational institutions following the issuance of a Red Alert.

Neighbouring Thane district is under an Orange Alert, with the IMD predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds. Gusts of 50-60 kmph are expected in Mumbai, Thane and Palghar, with higher wind speeds possible along coastal areas.

Authorities have cautioned residents about the risk of urban flooding, flash floods in low-lying areas, landslides in hilly regions and traffic disruptions as the active monsoon system continues to impact the state. Citizens have been advised to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall.
