You can no longer buy petrol and diesel arbitrarily; limits set

New Delhi: The Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global oil trade, has been closed for a long time due to the ongoing tensions between Iran and the US. Due to which global crude oil imports have been affected. It is difficult to say when the ongoing tension in West Asia will stop? Meanwhile, the government is taking various steps to address the shortage of petrol and diesel. Now, the government has imposed restrictions on the purchase of industrial petrol and diesel in excess from petrol pumps.

As per the government guidelines, industrial, commercial and institutional users cannot buy petrol and diesel from petrol pumps. The government has asked them to buy the required fuel from bulk sale points as per their requirement. According to the directive, this ban will remain in effect for the next 90 days. The government has taken this step after seeing a sudden increase in demand for diesel and petrol in various parts of the country. Due to the price difference, bulk users used to buy petrol and diesel in large quantities from petrol pumps. Now, diesel is being sold at Rs 95.20 per liter at petrol pumps in the national capital Delhi. While diesel is being sold at Rs 134.50 per liter in bulk sales.

The government notice states that – In the current situation, there has been a significant increase in the sale of petrol and diesel at retail outlets (petrol pumps) in some parts of the country. According to the new rule, industrial, commercial and institutional consumers will not be able to buy petrol and diesel from anywhere they want. They will get their fuel supply from the pumps designated for them. Similarly, a limit has been set for the sale of diesel at petrol pumps. A maximum of 200 litres of petrol can be filled in a customer’s diesel vehicle.
