Apple’s Foldable iPhone Duo Priced at Rs 2.99 Lakh, Launch Set for October 23
NEW DELHI: Apple on Wednesday unveiled its first-ever foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, marking the company’s entry into the growing foldable phone segment. The device will be available in India from October 23 at a starting price of Rs 2,99,900, making it the most expensive iPhone in Apple’s current lineup.
The iPhone Duo, unveiled at Apple’s launch event on September 9, features a book-style foldable design with a 7.6-inch inner display and a 5.4-inch outer display. Apple said the inner screen is the largest display ever offered on an iPhone and is designed to provide a larger canvas for gaming, viewing content and multitasking.
The smartphone will be available in two colours — star white and night sky — and will come with storage options ranging from 256GB to 2TB. In India, the 256GB variant is priced at Rs 2,99,900, while higher storage configurations will cost more.
Apple said customers in more than 70 countries and regions, including India, will be able to pre-order the iPhone Duo from October 16. In India, Apple has listed pre-orders to begin at 5:30 pm IST on October 16, with the device going on sale from October 23.
The iPhone Duo is powered by Apple’s A20 Pro chip and runs a reworked version of iOS designed specifically for the foldable form factor. The company has also equipped the device with a 48MP Dual Fusion camera system and support for multitasking across its larger inner display.
Apple said the foldable iPhone is the thinnest iPhone ever when opened and uses a titanium frame and precision-engineered hinge. The device also features a nano-texture finish on its inner display to reduce glare.
The launch marks a major shift in Apple’s smartphone strategy, coming several years after rivals such as Samsung entered the foldable phone market. With the iPhone Duo, Apple is seeking to combine the larger-screen experience of foldable devices with its existing iPhone ecosystem.
The company is positioning the device as a premium offering, with its nearly Rs 3 lakh starting price placing it firmly in the ultra-premium smartphone segment.
