Chennai police detain three for making social media reels inside mortuary
CHENNAI: Three men have been arrested for allegedly entering the mortuary of Government Stanley Hospital without permission and filming videos of dead bodies to create content for social media reels, police said on Friday.
According to police, Sathishkumar (25) and Dheena alias Dineshkumar (30), both residents of Vyasarpadi, had visited the hospital on Thursday to see the body of their associate Anand, a known history-sheeter from Ernavur.
The duo allegedly entered the mortuary and recorded videos of the bodies kept there, apparently intending to use the footage for social media content.
Police said the act came to light after the men were found filming inside the mortuary. A case was registered and three persons were subsequently arrested in connection with the incident.
Dheena is also affiliated with the TVK party, police added.
The authorities are examining the circumstances under which the accused gained access to the mortuary and recorded the videos. Police are also looking into whether the footage was uploaded or circulated on social media platforms.
The incident has raised concerns over unauthorised access to hospital mortuaries and the filming of deceased persons for social media content.
