BJP Nominates Habbey Teron for Assam Assembly Deputy Speaker’s Post
Guwahati: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday announced that its MLA from Amri (ST) Hills, Dr. Habbey Teron, will be the party’s candidate for the post of Deputy Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly.
The announcement was made by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma through a post on X, where he formally declared Teron’s candidature for the constitutional post. “I am pleased to announce that Dr. Habbey Teron, Hon’ble MLA from Amri (ST) Hills, will be our candidate for the post of Deputy Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly,” Sarma said.
Teron, a medical professional by training, represents the Amri (ST) Hills constituency in West Karbi Anglong district. He is also the first elected representative from the newly created Amri constituency. Praising the BJP legislator, the Chief Minister said Teron embodies the aspirations of Assam’s tribal communities and will play an important role in strengthening the representation of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao in the legislative process.
