BRICS needs to address economic hurdles, says Jaishankar
NEW DELHI: The BRICS grouping must work towards addressing emerging economic challenges by promoting transparent trade and investment practices, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Friday.
Addressing the BRICS Business Forum, Jaishankar highlighted the impact of geopolitical upheavals on global commerce and stressed the need for coordinated efforts to strengthen economic cooperation among member countries.
He said BRICS should focus on addressing supply chain disruptions, ensuring genuine market practices, improving logistics, creating a predictable business environment, and diversifying commercial relationships.
Jaishankar also emphasised the importance of transparent trade and investment practices to facilitate stronger economic ties among BRICS nations.
“The common thread is how to make it easier for businesses in our countries to find more partners, access more markets, connect supply networks and convert complementarities into viable commercial partnerships,” he said.
The minister’s remarks underscored the need for BRICS countries to create conditions that enable businesses to expand partnerships and access new markets amid continuing global economic and geopolitical uncertainties.
He said closer integration of supply networks and greater commercial cooperation could help member countries leverage their respective strengths and build more resilient economic partnerships.
Jaishankar’s comments come as BRICS seeks to deepen economic engagement and enhance cooperation among its expanding membership.
