Delhi CM Directs Review of Illegal Construction Records, Warns of Bulldozer Action
NEW DELHI: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has directed civic authorities to conduct a comprehensive inspection of paying guest (PG) accommodations across the national capital and scrutinise building records to determine when illegal constructions were carried out and fix responsibility on the officials and agencies concerned, CMO officials said on Wednesday.
The chief minister has instructed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to launch a strict crackdown on illegal constructions across the city, including demolition action wherever required, the officials said.
Gupta has also directed that senior civic officials remain present on the ground during enforcement drives to ensure effective implementation of the orders and prevent lapses in action against unauthorised structures.
As part of the drive, authorities will examine records related to buildings and their construction to establish when unauthorised work took place. The exercise will also seek to identify the agencies and officials responsible for allowing or failing to detect such constructions, according to the officials.
The chief minister has separately ordered an intensive inspection of PG accommodations throughout Delhi, with particular emphasis on identifying illegal constructions and other unauthorised modifications.
The inspections are aimed at ensuring that PG facilities are operating in compliance with applicable building and civic regulations. Authorities have been asked to take necessary enforcement action against violations found during the inspections.
The directions come as the Delhi government steps up scrutiny of unauthorised construction and seeks greater accountability among civic agencies responsible for enforcement.
Gupta’s instructions also emphasise the need for senior officials to directly supervise enforcement operations rather than relying solely on subordinate staff. The government is expected to monitor the implementation of the inspection and demolition drives closely.
Officials said the civic authorities have been directed to act against violations in accordance with the applicable rules and to establish accountability wherever negligence or failure in enforcement is found.
