Rural Cricket Event in Shimla Champions Fight Against Drugs, Environmental Protection
Shimla: A rural-level cricket tournament in Himachal Pradesh’s Shimla district is combining sports with social awareness, using the game as a platform to educate youth about the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of environmental conservation.
Yuva Mandal Mandhol in the Jubbal subdivision organising the 10-day ‘Shaan-e-Bushahr’ Mandhol Premier League-4, which has fascinated participation from more than 80 teams representing Uttarakhand, Nawar, Theog, Chohara, Rohru, and Kotkhai regions. The tournament will conclude on June 20, with the winning team set to receive a cash prize of Rs 1.51 lakh.
Organisers said the event aims not only to promote sporting talent in rural areas but also to encourage positive social change among young people. Robin Chauhan, Yuva Mandal Mandhol General Secretary told PTI on Monday “Cricket, is a commanding medium to keep the young generation away from drugs and also inform the youth about the need for environmental protection.” The tournament has developed as a major sporting event in the region, grabbing enthusiastic participation from local communities while strengthening the message of a healthy and socially responsible daily life.
