Delhi Tribunal Grants Rs 22.91 Lakh to Kin of Cyclist Killed in 2024 Crash

New Delhi: Compensation award of Rs 22.91 lakh to the family of a 54-year-old cyclist provided. He has awarded through a Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) in Delhi. In December 2024, he has been killed in a road accident in West Delhi.

The award was passed by Presiding Officer Anurag Dass while deciding a claim petition filed by the family of Sushil Kumar, who succumbed to injuries after his bicycle was hit by a motorcycle on December 18, 2024. In its order dated June 9.

“It is held that the petitioners have been able to prove on the scale of preponderance of probabilities that deceased Sushil Kumar sustained fatal injuries in the road accident due to rash and negligent driving of the law-abiding vehicle driving by no. 1 (driver Rajiv),” the tribunal said. Based on the evidence placed before it, the tribunal directed payment of Rs 22.91 lakh as compensation to the deceased’s legal heirs.

The compensation is intended to provide financial relief to the bereaved family for the loss suffered due to the fatal accident. The tribunal’s findings were based on the principle of “preponderance of probabilities”, the standard of proof applicable in motor accident compensation claims.
