Following IIT Roorkee and DU, JNU Warns Students, Staff against CJP Protest Participation
New Delhi: Days after IIT Roorkee and Delhi University issued advisories asking students and staff to avoid the ongoing protests over the alleged NEET paper leak, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on Friday issued a similar directive, urging its academic community to prioritise personal safety and act responsibly. In its advisory, JNU requested students, faculty and staff not to participate in or visit protest gatherings at or around Jantar Mantar, citing Supreme Court directions on public demonstrations.
The university also warned that violations of applicable laws, including irresponsible use of social media, could invite legal action as well as disciplinary proceedings under the university’s code of conduct.
The advisory follows similar notices from IIT Roorkee and Delhi University, which have urged their campus communities to stay away from protest sites. Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticised Delhi University for its advisory, accusing the institution of threatening students for exercising their democratic rights.
