Harmanpreet Retained as India Captain for Asian Games despite T20 World Cup Disappointment

NEW DELHI: Harmanpreet Kaur will continue to lead the Indian women’s cricket team at the upcoming Asian Games in Japan, with selectors retaining her as captain despite the side’s disappointing group-stage exit from the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup earlier this week.

The Women’s Selection Committee on Tuesday announced a 15-member Indian squad for the Asian Games, scheduled to be held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4.

The selectors have backed Harmanpreet to lead the side as it prepares to defend its Asian Games title. The Indian women’s team heads into the continental event as the reigning champions, having clinched the historic gold medal at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.
