Jantar Mantar Protest: Tharoor Appeals for Talks, Asks Wangchuk to End Hunger Strike
NEW DELHI: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Wednesday appealed to activist Sonam Wangchuk to end his fast at Jantar Mantar over alleged irregularities in the NEET examination and urged the Centre to initiate dialogue with the protesters.
In an open letter, Tharoor said that engaging in talks would reflect statesmanship rather than weakness and stressed that students’ concerns deserve serious attention. Urging Wangchuk to reconsider his indefinite fast, Tharoor said the students’ grievances should be resolved through parliamentary discussion and constructive engagement rather than a fast unto death.
He noted that with Parliament set to reconvene on Monday, the issue could be raised at the highest democratic forum.
