THANE: A session’s court in Maharashtra’s Thane district has sentenced a 28-year-old woman to life imprisonment for murdering her 18-month-old daughter and awarded her husband a four-year prison term for destroying evidence and attempting to conceal the crime.

Additional Sessions Judge R.D. Sawant convicted Noorani (Khatun) Jahid Shaikh under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code for the murder of the toddler, while her husband, Jahid Salamat Shaikh, was found guilty under Section 201 for causing the disappearance of evidence.

The crime occurred at the couple’s residence in Mumbra between March 18 and 19, 2024. The case came to light after police received an anonymous complaint accompanied by photographs, prompting an investigation that led to the exhumation of the child’s body from a local graveyard.
