RBI Keeps Policy Rate Unchanged for Third Straight Meeting amid West Asia Crisis

MUMBAI: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Wednesday kept the benchmark repo rate unchanged at 5.25 per cent for the third consecutive monetary policy review, citing uncertainty over global energy prices and supply disruptions linked to the ongoing West Asia crisis. RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra said the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) unanimously decided to maintain the policy rate and retain its neutral stance. The decision comes as retail inflation, measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), rose to 4.38 per cent in June, breaching the central bank’s medium-term target of 4 per cent.
