Key Accused in Baruipur Rape-Murder Case Killed in Police Encounter during Escape Bid

KOLKATA: One of the key accused in the alleged rape and murder of a girl was killed in a police encounter early Wednesday after allegedly attempting to escape from custody during a crime scene reconstruction exercise in West Bengal’s Baruipur, police said.

According to a senior police officer, the accused was taken to Suryapur in Baruipur on Tuesday night as part of the investigation to reconstruct the sequence of events related to the crime.

Police said the accused was subsequently killed in an encounter while attempting to escape. During the exercise, the accused allegedly snatched a firearm from a police officer and tried to flee from the spot, the officer said.
