Intense tension as encroachment is lifted in Kolkata

Kolkata: Encroachments have been cleared from the Jadavpur railway station area in Kolkata. There was an aggressive situation arose during the operation to remove the hawkers. Due to this administrative action on Sunday night, there has been disturbance throughout the region. There was intense tension in the local area after bulldozers were deployed to demolish illegal shops and constructions. Following this, a violent clash broke out between the protesters and the security forces. Several people were injured in the clash. The police have detained CPI-M leader Sarjan Bhattacharya to bring the situation under control. A large number of personnel from Kolkata Police, Railway Protection Force (RPF), and central paramilitary forces were deployed at the scene. The leftist and Congress leaders staged protests to stop this administrative work.
