Regulate cotton yarn exports to protect apparel industry, exporters urge govt

NEW DELHI: Apparel exporters have urged Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal to consider regulating cotton yarn exports to check rising prices and protect the industry’s competitiveness.

Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) Chairman A Sakthivel said supply constraints, including limited stocks with ginners and reduced cotton arrivals, have pushed up raw cotton and yarn prices. Mills are increasingly relying on Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) auctions due to the shortage, he said.
