The distorted name will be removed, the original Odia will be restored, and the name of the 64th seat will be changed

Bhubaneswar: The English spelling of various place names in Odisha will be changed. For this, the administrative process has been going on for the past few days. A high-level committee constituted by the government has recommended the correction of the English spelling of 64 place names in 26 districts. The Cabinet today approved the proposal. The state government will inform the Union Home Ministry about this through a gazette notification. The cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi at Lok Seva Bhavan passed this proposal along with eight other proposals from six departments.

Proposals were invited from the District Collector, public representatives and citizens to correct the distorted English spelling. The government formed a committee under the chairmanship of eminent litterateur Dr. Pratibha Roy to review the proposals. The committee finalized the names of 64 places and recommended them to the government.

After the Cabinet seal is given, all central agencies including the Survey of India, Indian Railways, Department of Posts, Registrar General, Census Commissioner, etc. will be requested to make necessary changes in their official records. The government has said that such steps have been taken to preserve the Odia linguistic heritage and cultural identity.
