NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday spoke to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to review the flood-like situation in parts of the state, assuring full support from the Centre as swelling rivers impacted thousands of residents.

During the conversation, Shah sought details about the extent of damage caused by the rising water levels and expressed the Centre’s readiness to provide all necessary assistance to the state in managing the evolving situation, officials said.

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), nearly 16,000 people have been affected by floods across 69 villages under four revenue circles in Dhemaji district.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as rivers continue to swell following heavy rainfall. The Assam government is assessing the damage and coordinating with central agencies to ensure timely relief measures for those impacted by the floods.
