Gen. NS Raja Subramanian Assumes Charge as India’s New Chief of Defence Staff

New Delhi, May 31: General NS Raja Subramanian has officially taken charge as India’s new Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), becoming the third officer to hold the country’s highest military position. On assuming office, he was accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour by personnel from all three armed forces.

General Subramanian succeeds General Anil Chauhan, who retired from service on Saturday. He follows in the footsteps of India’s first CDS, General Bipin Rawat, and the second CDS, General Anil Chauhan.

After taking charge, General Subramanian emphasized the importance of strengthening coordination among the Army, Navy, and Air Force. He also highlighted his commitment to promoting indigenous defence technologies and accelerating the adoption of homegrown military equipment.

His appointment comes at a crucial time as India continues its efforts to enhance joint military capabilities and advance the government’s vision of self-reliance in the defence sector.
