Andhra Pradesh braces for heavy rain as low-pressure area forms

AMARAVATI: The Andhra Pradesh government on Friday sounded an alert as a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is likely to bring moderate to heavy rainfall to several North Andhra districts over the next two days.

Gusty winds with speeds of 50-70 kmph are also expected along the coast, prompting the state administration to step up preparedness measures.

Home and Disaster Management Minister V Anitha directed officials to take all necessary steps to prevent damage and ensure the safety of people in rain-affected areas. She also instructed authorities to establish control rooms in districts likely to be affected by the weather system.

“The government is on alert in view of the low-pressure area and officials have been directed to take all necessary measures to prevent any damage. People should remain alert for the next three days,” Anitha said in an official release.

Officials have been asked to closely monitor the situation and respond promptly to any weather-related emergencies.

The state government has urged people, particularly those living in coastal and vulnerable areas, to remain cautious over the next three days and follow advisories issued by local authorities.
