Before You Buy Gold, Learn the Price Hack That Smart Shoppers Use
Buying gold can become more transparent if customers understand how the base price is calculated before making a purchase. Bullion trader and jewellery expert SS Alam said a jeweller’s bill mainly includes the gold rate, wastage and making charges, and buyers should first verify the base gold price.
He explained that consumers can estimate the fair value by converting the international COMEX gold price into rupees per gram using the current dollar-rupee exchange rate, then adding import duty and GST. Using a COMEX price of $4,030 per ounce and an exchange rate of Rs 96 per dollar, the estimated price of 24-karat gold works out to around Rs 14,903 per gram, helping buyers compare rates across jewellery stores more confidently.
