Delhi High Court Enhances Compensation to Rs 1.07 Crore for Family of Engineering Student Who Died in Crash
NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court has awarded compensation of more than Rs 1 crore to the family of a fourth-year engineering student who died in a road accident in 2017, while also enhancing the compensation for the family of another student killed in the same mishap to over Rs 84 lakh.
Justice Anish Dayal passed the order while deciding appeals filed by the families of the two students, seeking enhancement of the compensation granted by the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) in September 2020.
The court awarded compensation exceeding Rs 1 crore to the family of the fourth-year student, taking into account factors such as the deceased’s academic performance, future earning potential and other applicable legal principles for determining compensation. In the case of the third-year engineering student who also lost his life in the accident, the High Court enhanced the compensation to more than Rs 84 lakh.
The deceased students were pursuing engineering at Netaji Subhash Institute of Technology (NSIT), now known as Netaji Subhas University of Technology (NSUT), at the time of the accident.
