DMK Legislator Arrested Over Alleged Defamatory Speech against Tamil Nadu CM

TUTICORIN (Tamil Nadu): Opposition DMK legislator G V Markandeyan was arrested on Monday for allegedly making a defamatory and threatening speech against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay, police said. An FIR was registered following a complaint by Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) functionary P Kasiram.

The Vilathikulam MLA was taken into custody from his residence amid protests by supporters, who raised slogans against the police action. Police booked Markandeyan under three sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including criminal intimidation, intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace, and spreading false information. The arrest was made in connection with his controversial remarks targeting the chief minister.
