NEET Protest Row: SC Indicates SIT Could Be Formed to Investigate Police Action

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday said a Special Investigation Team (SIT) may be constituted to ensure a fair, transparent and comprehensive probe into all incidents of violence linked to recent student protests over alleged exam irregularities and the NEET paper leak.

Hearing a batch of petitions alleging police excesses against protesting students, a bench headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant observed that the law must take its course whenever there is a violation of the “defined protocol.”

The bench, also comprising Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana, referred to multiple incidents of violence and questioned why an independent investigation should not be ordered into the allegations.
