Five more people were rescued from the Kolkata warehouse debris, and authorities fear that more people are trapped.

KOLKATA: Five more people were rescued on Thursday from beneath the rubble of an under-construction warehouse that collapsed in Kolkata’s Taratala area, officials said, as rescue teams continued intensive operations amid fears that several people remain trapped.

The warehouse caved in on Wednesday, triggering a massive rescue effort involving disaster response personnel, firefighters, police, and civic authorities. According to officials, five people have been confirmed dead in the incident so far, while 25 others who sustained injuries are undergoing treatment at various hospitals.

Rescue workers have been racing against time to locate and extricate those feared trapped under the debris. Heavy machinery, sniffer dogs, and specialized equipment have been deployed at the site to clear the rubble and search for survivors. Authorities said the operation has continued for more than 18 hours, with teams working round the clock despite challenging conditions.

The exact number of people still trapped remains unclear. An investigation has been initiated to determine the cause of the collapse, officials added.
